The doctor talked about ways to detect lung cancer at an early stage

Oncologist of the highest qualification category, thoracic surgeon Andrey Nefedov on February 26 in an interview with "The newspaper.Ru" told how to detect lung cancer at an early stage.
"The sooner lung cancer is detected, the more effective the treatment will be. This is confirmed by global statistics on lung cancer," he said.
According to Nefedov, a person at stage IA1, when the tumor size is 1 cm, is 15% more likely to live for at least another 5 years than people at stage IA3.
The doctor noted that lung cancer is difficult to detect in time due to the nonspecific nature of the symptoms. Cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, hoarseness of voice, hemoptysis occur in many bronchopulmonary diseases. To identify this type of cancer, it is necessary to undergo medical examinations. The doctor emphasized that fluorography is inferior to low-dose computed tomography (NDKT) screening in terms of cancer detection efficiency.
"Fluorography, which Russians undergo in order to prevent and diagnose lung diseases, is unfortunately not effective in detecting lung cancer at an early stage. In contrast to this method, even the smallest tumors in the lungs can be detected using NDKT, which allows them to be removed in time and effective treatment can be carried out," the doctor said.
The oncologist drew attention to the fact that smoking is the main cause of lung cancer. He noted that NDT is recommended for people over 55 years of age, smokers with experience of one pack per day for 30 years.
"It's never too late to quit smoking. If a person has given up this addiction, then the risk of developing lung cancer decreases immediately by 6% within a year. When the experience of a healthy lifestyle without smoking is 15 years, the risks of developing lung cancer will be reduced to the same as in non—smokers," Nefedov summed up.
On February 16, oncologist at the Scandinavian Health Center Evgeny Gordeev spoke about factors that increase the risk of cancer. Thus, regular consumption of sweetened products or industrial concentrates can enhance inflammatory reactions that provoke malignant tumors. The risks also increase with frequent consumption of too hot drinks and spicy foods, as they can damage the mucous membrane of the esophagus, thereby causing chronic inflammation.
