Two suspects in the bombing on the territory of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Marseille turned out to be researchers at the National Center for Scientific Research of France (CNRS). This was reported on February 25 by the French TV channel BFMTV.

It is specified that they also testified against themselves and admitted guilt in the incident.

Newspaper La Provence clarified that the two suspects, aged about 50 and 40, not only admitted the facts, but also spoke in detail about their actions. It is noted that one of them works as an engineer, and the other as a chemist.

The explosion in Marseille occurred on February 24. It was clarified that unknown persons threw three explosive bottles into the territory of the diplomatic mission, two of which exploded. The Russian Embassy in France reported that as a result of the explosion href="https://iz.ru/1844129/2025-02-24/v-posolstve-rf-soobshchili-ob-otsutstvii-postradavshikh-v-genkonsulstve-v-marsele " rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">no one was injured.

Marseille Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation, classifying this case as vandalism with the use of explosives or incendiary substances. The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 360 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("An attack on persons or institutions that enjoy international protection in order to complicate international relations").

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the explosion on the territory of the diplomatic mission has everything href="https://iz.ru/1844082/2025-02-24/zakharova-soobshchila-o-priznakakh-terakta-vo-vzryve-u-genkonsulstva-rf-v-marsele " target="_blank">signs of a terrorist attack.
