About a quarter of the world's reserves of rare earths are located in Russia. Sergey Kirillov, Associate Professor of the Department of Rare Metals and Nanomaterials at Ural Federal University (UrFU), told Izvestia about this in an interview.

"About 35% of the world's reserves are concentrated in China. He's in first place in the world. But experts are arguing about the second one. It's either Brazil or us. Chinese deposits range from 40 to 45 million tons, while Russia has 20-25 million tons. This is about 20-25% of the world's reserves, that is, a quarter of the reserves of rare earth metals are concentrated in our country," Kirillov explained.

At the same time, according to him, Russia's share in the global production of these elements does not exceed 1%. The expert stressed that the Russian Federation has promising deposits, but capital investments in infrastructure are needed to develop them.
