The head of the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA), Eugene Daniels, announced on February 25 that the decision of the presidential administration USA According to Donald Trump, changing the approach of forming a press pool of journalists who cover the activities of the American leader is undermining the freedom of the press in the country.

"This step undermines the independence of free journalism in the United States. He assumes that the government will choose journalists who cover the activities of the president," Daniels said in a message on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to him, the association stands for full transparency in the work of the press and the right of people to watch honest reports from the White House. He added that the journalists had not been informed about the decision in advance.

The day before, the Axios portal reported that the Federal Court of the District of Columbia refused the American news agency Associated Press to resume access for its journalists to the events of the White House. Prior to that, on February 22, it was reported that AP filed a lawsuit against the assistants of the US president for the fact that editorial staff journalists were denied access to the head of state. The reason for the restrictions was AP's refusal to name the Gulf of Mexico by its new toponym, the Gulf of America. The agency believes that by his decision, Trump violates the country's constitution, including the First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of speech.
