Massive power outage occurred in Chile

In Chile, there was a massive power outage that affected the area between the regions of Arica, Parinacota and Los Lagos. This was reported on February 25 by the agency Infobae.

"A total power outage affecting 99% of the territory of Chile and two provinces of Argentina left more than 19 million people without electricity on Tuesday," the agency said in a statement.

So, in the country, as a result of an electricity outage, the operation of the metro in Santiago was disrupted, the country's emergency management department reported. The Ministry of Transport of Chile also reported a traffic light malfunction.

The Minister of the Interior of Chile, Carolina Toja, in the social network X (ex. Twitter) said that due to the massive blackout, it had called a meeting of the government's committee for responding to national disasters (Cogrid Nacional), where measures to eliminate the emergency situation and restore power supply would be considered.

According to her, the power outage was caused by a "shutdown" of the power line.

"There is no reason to believe that there is an attack behind this," the TV channel quoted her as saying 24 Horas.

In addition, the agency Bloomberg reported disruption to some of the world's largest copper mines after the blackout. For example, the Chilean copper company Codelco is taking measures to ensure the safety of its workers and facilities. At the same time, Antofagasta Plc continued to work with alternative energy sources.

On January 12, it became known that in Los Angeles, California, due to a fire 34,646 left without electricity homes and businesses. Also, in other areas of California, including San Bernardino, 8,333 buildings were left without electricity, 7,152 in Riverside, and 2,081 in Santa Barbara.
