In January 2025, the volume of production of still and sparkling wines in Russia increased by 18% compared to the same period in 2024. This was reported to Izvestia on February 25 by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

"Vineyard areas are growing in our country every year, the culture of winemaking and the quality of products are improving. The positive dynamics of wine production also remains — in January, the volume increased by 18% compared to the same period last year and amounted to 3.4 million dal," the ministry explained.

It was specified that 2.24 million dal of still wines were produced during this period, which is 16.5% more, and 1.1 million dal of sparkling wines, an increase of 23.4%.

According to the executive director of the FSRO "Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Russia" (ABVR) Petra Efremova, the increase in production is facilitated by an increase in demand for Russian wines. Among the reasons, the expert cites good sales during the New Year holidays, the completion of production cycles and the high results of major players with a large share of production. The AWB expects that growth will continue in the coming months — there are all prerequisites for this.

Government support also contributes to the development of the industry. The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia has been implementing the federal project "Stimulating the development of viticulture and winemaking" since 2022, combining the most popular measures for winegrowers and winemakers. In addition, other tools are available for farms within the framework of sectoral government programs.

The regions leading in terms of wine production include Krasnodar Krai (39.8%), the Republic of Crimea (17.6%) and Dagestan (11.8%). At the same time, slightly less than half of all still wines in the country and 57% sparkling wines were produced in Kuban in January, while 89% liqueur wines were produced on the Crimean Peninsula, the ministry said.

On February 4, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture announced that in 2024, domestic winemakers about 61 million dal of wine and cognac were produced, which is 13.4% more than in 2023. In particular, still wines produced 32.6 million dal, an increase of 8.6% compared to the previous year, sparkling wines — 17.6 million dal (+24.7%), fortified wines — 1.1 million dal (+29.6%), cognac — 9.7 million dal (+10.2%).
