Slovakia reminds Ukraine of €3.5 bln debt

Ukraine should return the €3.5bn in financial aid provided by Slovakia, the chairman of the Slovak National Party, which is part of the republic's government coalition, Andrej Danko, said on his Facebook page on 25 February (part of Meta, an organization recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
"How will [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky pay us back the €3.5 billion we sent there? I have to say that as a proportion of GDP, Slovakia is among the top six helping countries. We helped 8 times more than the French. For us, €3.5 billion is a huge amount of money," Danko said.
This is how the politician reacted to the news that the USA is close to concluding an agreement with Ukraine, which would secure its rights to the country's natural resources.
According to Danko, Slovakia "will not be able to remain silent" if the Germans together with the French and Americans demand their money back.
"I believe that Slovakia will not lose its money and that the voice of our government in Brussels will no longer continue [to favor] sanctions against Russia, <...> that Slovakia will also ask for the return of the money we sent there," Danko added.
On February 23, U.S. President Donald Trump said that he was going to demand from Ukraine not only rare-earth minerals, but also oil and "everything he can get." He said that the European Union has the opportunity to get the money back, while the United States does not.
