An ophthalmologist has named a method of checking vision at home after 40 years of age

After reaching the age of 40 it is necessary to check vision at home with the help of Amsler grid. This was reported on February 25 by ophthalmologist of the clinic 3Z Lidia Sadulaeva.

According to her, Amsler's grid is 42 contrasting horizontal and vertical lines forming cells with a clear point in the center. To test vision, one should print out the table or use a computer screen, placing the grid at a distance of 25-30 cm from the eyes.

After that it is necessary to close one eye and focus with the other on the point located on the grid. Then assess its visibility, the presence of distortions, the evenness of lines and cells, the doctor added.

"If the table is clearly visible, you can bring it closer to the eyes for 10 cm without taking your eyes off, and again assess the result. Then the test is repeated for the second eye," she told Gazeta.Ru.

Sadulaeva emphasized that if some lines look curved or the size of the cells are different, it is necessary to immediately consult an ophthalmologist.

The specialist also recommended to perform such diagnostics in good health. If a person regularly wears glasses or lenses, it is important to pass the test in them.

According to her, such symptoms can be caused by inflammation or irritation of the mucous membrane of the eye - conjunctiva, as well as the cornea. The causes of this condition vary, but one of the most common is dry eye syndrome.
