A Ukrainian woman was detained for espionage in Kherson region

The Department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia in Kherson region has stopped the criminal activity of a 51-year-old Ukrainian citizen involved in espionage in the region. This was reported in the press service of the agency on February 25.

"Conducted operational and investigative measures established that the suspect in the period from June 2023 to April 2024 on the assignment of the SBU carried out the collection and transfer of information on the deployment of forces and means of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Kherson region", - stated in the message of the FSSB.

A criminal case was opened against the woman under Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Espionage", the maximum penalty for which is 20 years of imprisonment. The defendant is in custody.

During interrogation, the detainee said that she was the administrator of a group in social networks, which sent illegally collected information about the deployment of the Russian army, and sent this information to the Ukrainian military.

In addition, a case under Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, forwarding or carrying of explosives or explosive devices" is being investigated against the Ukrainian. Within its framework, investigative actions are underway, during which law enforcers find out the circumstances of the crime and establish connections of the defendant. The woman said that in March 2024, the Ukrainian military dropped explosives, grenades, detonators and control panels to her from a drone. The woman realized that all these items would be used against the Russian army.

Earlier, on February 21, eight Russians were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 16 to 22 years for arson of transport infrastructure facilities and preparation of terrorist attacks in places of deployment of units of the Russian Armed Forces (AF). The defendants committed the crimes in the Krasnodar, Belgorod, Kursk, Kemerovo, Chelyabinsk and Orenburg regions.
