The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case over the attack on the Russian Consulate General in Marseille. This was announced by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia Svetlana Petrenko on February 25.
"A criminal case has been opened on the fact of an attack on the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in the city of Marseille <...> on the grounds of a crime under part 2 of article 360 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attack on persons or institutions that enjoy international protection, with the aim of complicating international relations")," - cited Petrenko in the Telegram-channel of the Department.
She recalled that unknown persons threw three bottles with some explosive substance on the territory of the diplomatic mission, two of them exploded. The attackers created a threat to the security of the Consulate General's staff and disrupted its work. According to the version of the investigation, the criminals sought to complicate international relations.
Petrenko added that the IC within the framework of the investigation is cooperating with the Russian Foreign Ministry and is preparing to send an international request for legal assistance.
