Rosstandart has published a package of amendments to GOST-R 52289, which sets out mandatory rules for the use of road signs and markings. The changes will come into force on January 1, 2026, but regional authorities can apply it already now, Kommersant reported on February 25.

Several new signs have been added to the document, such as "Deaf". It informs about hearing-impaired or deaf pedestrians - such signs can be placed near medical institutions or public organizations. It is now possible to indicate the method of parking on a parking sign. In the same way, a speed limit sign can also include a warning about a speed bump.

In addition, the signage that indicates the expiration date of various road signs has been updated. In addition to specific hours or days of the week, months have been added to the list. The stop line sign can now be vertical. Also, multiple signs can now be combined on one sign. Thus, "Recommended Speed Limit" can be placed with the sign "Artificial Bump", and "Parking" - together with the image "Method of putting the vehicle in parking".

Finally, in populated areas in front of some regulated intersections (except for emergency intersections) is allowed not to put a sign "Stop line", enough markings. At the same time, the sign itself can now be used in a vertical version.

According to Maxim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, the Traffic Management Center (TMC) believes that the large number of signs on the city streets negatively affects the concentration of drivers' attention and perception of the traffic situation. The new standard will allow to dismantle in Moscow more than 55 thousand signs, now there are about 900 thousand of them in the city. The process will begin this year and may take several years.

The day before it was reported that the section of the toll road M-12 "Vostok" to Yekaterinburg is planned to be put into operation by the end of June 2025. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin, who flew over the highway section from Tatarstan to the Sverdlovsk region.
