Media reported on France's ability to deploy nuclear-armed fighter jets to the FRG

France may deploy nuclear-armed fighter jets in Germany in case the United States withdraws its troops from the region. This was reported by the British newspaper The Telegraph on February 25.
As mentioned in the material, the leader of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc that won the elections to the Bundestag, Friedrich Merz, said that Europe should no longer rely on the protection of US President Donald Trump's administration and called on Britain and France to expand their nuclear defenses as he seeks Europe's "independence" from Trump's America.
"The deployment of several French nuclear fighters in Germany should not cause difficulties and would send a strong signal," the publication quoted an unnamed French official as saying.
Earlier, on February 20, an unnamed European politician shared with Politico fears that the transatlantic alliance is coming to an end. Another of the publication's interlocutors, an anonymous senior Polish official, suggested that the U.S. leader doesn't actually intend to pull the U.S. out of NATO or divide Europe. He said Trump wants to make Europe "take more responsibility for its security to strengthen NATO."
