Lithuania starts dismantling power lines connecting to Russia


Lithuania has started the process of dismantling power transmission lines on the border with Kaliningrad Region. This was announced by the Minister of Energy of the Republic Zhygimantas Vaičiūnas on February 24.
"Lithuanian system operator Litgrid has started dismantling the supports of the 330 kV line between Kruoniska hydroelectric power plant and Sovetskoye," he was quoted as saying by LRT television and radio company.
Vaičiūnas specified that the works on dismantling the transmission line are planned to be completed within a year and a half. A total of 544 supports will be demolished and 230 kilometers of wires will be eliminated.
According to the minister, the demolition of the power lines will free up 900 hectares of land, which will be handed over to farmers. Also, part of the dismantled energy infrastructure will be transferred to Kiev,Gazeta.Ruadded.
On February 8, the Baltic states disconnected from the joint energy system with Russia. The withdrawal of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia from the international electric ring BRELL did not affect the parallel operation of the energy systems of Russia and Belarus and the functioning of the energy system in the Kaliningrad region, the press service of the system operator of the Unified Energy System noted.
