Two men were detained in Marseille during a demonstration, one of them is suspected of attacking the Russian Consulate General. This was reported on February 24 by radio station RMC with reference to local police.

"According to our information, around 19:30 on Monday two men aged 48 and 59 were detained at a pro-Ukrainian demonstration. One of them is suspected of attacking the Russian consulate", - stated in the material of the radio station.

It is specified that one of the detained men is suspected of detonating an explosive device.

About the explosion in Marseille became known earlier in the day. At the scene worked about 30 employees of the Marseille Marine Fire Department and the police. According to preliminary data, the explosion occurred around 8:00 (10:00 Moscow time). Later, the Russian Embassy said there were no casualties at the consulate general. The Marseille prosecutor's office launched an investigation into the case of vandalism with the use of explosives or incendiary substances.

At the same time the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the explosion on the territory of the diplomatic mission has all the signs of a terrorist attack. She demanded that France take prompt and exhaustive measures to investigate the incident.
