The representative of the UN chief Stephane Dujarric said on February 24 that the world organization is aware of the attack on the Russian consulate general in Marseille and condemns the incident.

"We are very much aware of and condemn the explosion at the Russian Federation consulate in Marseille in France. Attacks on consular offices of diplomatic missions and their staff are unacceptable," TASS quoted the UN chief's spokesman as saying.

According to him, such actions contradict the laws of international law.

The explosion in Marseille became known earlier in the day. About 30 employees of the Marseille Marine Fire Department and police worked at the scene. According to preliminary data, the explosion occurred around 8:00 (10:00 Moscow time). Later, the Russian Embassy said there were no casualties at the consulate general. The Marseille prosecutor's office launched an investigation into the case of vandalism with the use of explosives or incendiary substances.

At the same time the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the explosion on the territory of the diplomatic mission has all the signs of a terrorist attack. She demanded that France take prompt and exhaustive measures to investigate the incident.
