Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and UN Secretary-General António Guterres discussed the situation in Ukraine in Geneva and noted the importance of maintaining impartiality on this and a number of other issues. The relevant information was published on February 24 on the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The most acute problems of the international agenda were considered, including with a focus on the current situation around Ukraine, in Syria and in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The Russian side emphasized the importance of the UN Secretariat's adherence to the principles of impartiality and equidistance," the department's press service informed.
Vershinin and Guterres also discussed the implementation of the Russia-UN Memorandum on unimpeded access of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to the world market.
On February 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the situation in Syria during a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The ministers then decided to remain in close contact on topical bilateral, regional and international topics, including the Middle East and Ukraine.
