Macron said it was impossible to confiscate frozen Russian assets

Frozen Russian assets cannot be confiscated, as it contradicts the laws of international law. This was reported by French President Emmanuel Macron on February 24.
"It is impossible to take away frozen Russian assets. This is contrary to international law," the French leader said during a meeting with US President Donald Trump, broadcast on the Elysee Palace's X page (former Twitter).
He said Russian assets should be discussed as part of the Ukraine talks.
European officials on February 22 began discussing the possibility of seizing about $280 billion in frozen assets of Russia's Central Bank and using them to rebuild Ukraine. European Commission (EC) head Ursula von der Leyen said on 4 February that the European Union (EU) was working on the "most creative" use of Russian frozen assets to provide assistance to Ukraine.
