US President Donald Trump has said that he may meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy this week or next week to sign a mining agreement. This was reported by the British TV channel SkyNews on Monday, February 24.

"Trump says the meeting could take place 'this week or next week' to sign a mineral agreement," the publication said.

In addition, the U.S. leader noted in his Truth Social social media post that the U.S. hopes for a deal to be finalized as soon as possible.

"Everyone has expressed their goal to achieve an end [to the conflict], and I emphasized the importance of the vital minerals and rare earths agreement between the US and Ukraine, which we hope will be signed very soon" - he wrote.

In addition, Trump said he expects to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon.

On February 23, the British newspaper Financial Times reported that the Ukrainian leader at a meeting with the head of the US Treasury Department Scott Bessent when discussing the rare earth metals deal "was very angry", there was a conflict between the parties. It is specified that Zelensky rejected the assertion of Bessent that the partnership with the United States in the field of mining will strengthen the security of Ukraine.

On the same day, Trump said he was going to demand not only rare earth minerals but also oil and "whatever he can get" from Ukraine. He said the European Union has the ability to get the money back, while the US does not.
