Footage from the liberation of Marinka in the DNR more than a year ago has emerged

The town of Maryinka in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), which was liberated in December 2023, has been almost completely destroyed during the fighting. Images of the town were shown by Izvestiya's correspondent on February 24.
"During active hostilities, Maryinka was almost completely [destroyed], but despite this, the task was accomplished, the town was completely cleared of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Now Donetsk has stopped being shelled," journalist Yevhen Bykovskyy said.
He recalled that the Ukrainian military shelled Donetsk from Maryinka and other settlements. Thus, the city was one of the key strongholds of the AFU.
According to Bykovsky, Maryinka is adjacent to the Petrovsky district of Donetsk, from where the AFU struck various neighborhoods of the DNR capital, "seeing perfectly well where they were shooting."
On December 25, 2023, former Russian Defense Ministry head Sergei Shoigu reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the liberation of Maryinka. He said that the assault troops of the "South" group had taken the town in an active offensive.
The AFU had been turning Maryinka into an underground fortification since 2014, including concrete dugouts and message passages, which enabled Ukrainian fighters to move stealthily and defend the town for a long time. Two lines of defense were also established there with a large amount of artillery. The first strikes on the city were carried out on the night of July 12, 2014, when Ukraine shelled residential neighborhoods with heavy artillery. Thirty civilians of the DNR were killed at once.
