Head of the Investigative Committee instructed to initiate proceedings after the attack on the Russian Consulate General in Marseille

Chairman of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed to initiate criminal proceedings over the attack on the building of the Russian Consulate General in Marseille, France. This was reported in the press service of the IC on February 24.

"The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation instructed the Main investigative Directorate of the IC of Russia to organize an investigation into this incident", - said in the Telegram-channel of the Department.

It is specified that Bastrykin ordered to give a legal assessment of the actions of those involved under Article 360 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attack on persons or institutions that enjoy international protection") and to request the Russian Foreign Ministry to provide the information necessary for the investigation.

The incident occurred earlier in the day at around 08:00 (10:00 Moscow time). Unknown persons threw three improvised explosive devices on the territory of the consulate general. No one was injured.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was taking all necessary measures to draw France's attention to strengthening security measures against Russian missions

In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that the reason for the attack on the Russian consulate general in Marseille was the anti-Russian hysteria that had been fueled in France.
