China's UN envoy says opportunities for a settlement on Ukraine are growing

Prospects for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict are now breaking away. Fu Tsung, China's permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), said on Monday, February 24.
"At present, the desire for a negotiated solution to this issue is growing, and prospects for peace are opening up. China supports all efforts for peace, including reaching an understanding between the US and Russia and launching negotiations," he said at the UN General Assembly meeting.
In addition, Fu Tsung said China urges the parties to take part in the talks, find a diplomatic solution and come to a peace agreement. He expressed hope that Europe would help resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, the British newspaper Financial Times reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will face the most dangerous period of his rule in the coming days. It noted that US President Donald Trump is pushing for a peace deal with Moscow, sidelining Kiev.
Also on 24 February, the Kremlin said that Chinese President Xi Jinping in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed support for the dialogue between Moscow and Washington that had started.
