Sochi airport switched to working according to actual weather due to bad weather conditions

Sochi International Airport has switched to the actual weather mode of operation due to unfavorable weather conditions. The press service of the air harbor informed TASS on February 24.

"On the territory of Sochi <...> on February 24 and 25, adverse weather conditions will remain. <...>. Currently, Sochi airport is working on the actual weather and continues to serve passengers and airlines," - said in the press service.

It is noted that departures of four flights from the airport were delayed for two hours due to the late arrival of airplanes. The press service stressed that the air harbor and airlines are making every effort to ensure the timely departure of passengers.

A day earlier, more than 10 flights flying to Sochi had to leave for alternate airfields due to unfavorable weather conditions at the airport. To ensure flight safety, the crews of 11 aircraft decided to leave for alternate airfields (Mineralnye Vody, Grozny, Vladikavkaz). Subsequently, these airplanes flew to Sochi airport.

February 22, Azur Air flight from Sochi to Phuket was delayed for more than 15 hours due to difficult weather conditions. As a representative of the carrier told Izvestia, the initial reason for the delayed departure was weather conditions - heavy snow, and then the crew ran out of working hours. Passengers were offered accommodation in a hotel for the waiting time, and were also given hot meals twice.
