Humorist Mikhail Galustyan called the restriction imposed against him by the European Union (EU) as part of the expansion of the list of anti-Russian sanctions a surprise.

"It came as a complete surprise to me," the artist said in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru" on February 24.

According to him, European politicians "have "nothing at all to wing" if cultural figures, actors, comedians and satirists "bringing joy and smiles" are now subjected to sanctions.

Galustyan added that the EU will not be able to "close" Russia and urged the countries that approved the restrictions to take care of their citizens.

The EU expanded the list of anti-Russian sanctions on February 24. In addition to Galustyan, the list was expanded to include TV host Yulia Baranovskaya, senator and chess player Sergey Karjakin, Olympic champion Nikita Nagorny, director general of the National Center "Russia" Natalia Virtuozova and others.
