U.S. President Donald Trump intends to revolutionize American foreign policy, including the establishment of relations with Russia in order to undermine Moscow 's partnership with Beijing. This assumption was made by Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and an American political scientist, on Monday, February 24, commenting on reports about the intention of European leaders to dissuade Trump from dialog with Russia.

According to the expert, Trump's team is forming a new approach to Russia based on the fact that the main adversary is China, so it is necessary to improve relations with Moscow. To do this, the United States' approach to Ukraine should be reconsidered.

"I think that France and Britain will not be able to change Trump's mind. One of Trump's main ideas is related to the return of Russia to the orbit of influence of the West, and Trump has been talking about this - including to return Russia to the G8 (G8, so the format was called with the participation of the Russian Federation, now it is G7. - Ed.). He is doing this to destroy the strategic partnership between Russia, China and North Korea," Blokhin said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

According to the political scientist, the attempts of French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are doomed to failure.

"The new team is changing its approach and conducting a revolution in US foreign policy - for the first time since World War II," he concluded.

Earlier, The Times wrote that Macron and Starmer wanted to convince Trump not to hold bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, RT reported.

According to the newspaper, the French and British leaders are going to offer the US president the European Union's (EU) support for Ukraine's security as an alternative to negotiations with Russia, kp.ru reported.

In addition, The Wall Street Journal reported on February 23 that the UK and France were developing a plan to deploy up to 30,000 European peacekeepers in Ukraine, Regnum news agency reported. It is noted that the implementation depends on whether Trump can be persuaded to accept a limited role for the US soldiers, who will support the EU in case of an escalation of the conflict.
