The anti-Russian hysteria fueled in France is the reason for the attack on the Russian Consulate General in Marseille. This was stated on Monday, February 24, by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

"There is no doubt that this attack was a direct consequence of the anti-Russian hysteria and the atmosphere of hatred towards our country and its citizens," the ministry's website quoted her as saying.

Zakharova called on local authorities to be more attentive to the issues of ensuring the security of Russian institutions in the face of anti-Russian rhetoric in accordance with the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations.

"We expect an objective investigation and bringing the perpetrators to justice," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

The incident occurred earlier in the day at around 08:00 (local time, 10:00 Moscow time). Unknown persons threw three improvised explosive devices on the territory of the consulate general. No one was injured.

For his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was taking all necessary measures to draw France's attention to strengthening security measures against Russian missions.
