Ukrainian militant received 24 years in prison for killing a civilian in the DNR

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) has sentenced a Ukrainian soldier of the Azov group (recognized as a terrorist group, banned in Russia), Maxim Melnikov, to 24 years in a strict regime colony for the murder of a civilian in Mariupol. This was reported on February 24 by the press service of the DNR prosecutor's office on its website.

According to the investigation, in March 2022, the accused shot a civilian from a hand machine gun, who was in the building of the pharmacy.

It is noted that the man was found guilty under paragraphs "g", "l" of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder committed by an organized group, motivated by political, ideological hatred"), part 1 of article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Cruel treatment of civilians in the occupied territory").

Earlier, on February 19, a Russian court sentenced to imprisonment four militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for terrorist attacks in Kursk region. It was noted that Serhiy Bochenko and Valeriy Malchenko were sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Serhiy Litvinenko and Serhiy Bilichenko were sentenced to 16 years.
