Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko spoke on February 25 about amendments to laws to combat cyber fraud.

According to him, one of the solutions is a mandatory auto-detector of incoming calls. It is supposed to highlight the name of the organization rather than the number of the caller. Thus, one can immediately understand: it is a call from a bank, from a cellular operator or from a suspicious subscriber.

In addition, it is planned to introduce a mandatory interval between SMS-messages when changing the password on "Gosuslugi". The confirmation code will come only 10-15 minutes after the notification of the intention to change the password, Grigorenko noted.

He added that other measures to combat cyber fraudsters are a ban on calls via messengers for government agencies and bank employees, a person's self-ban on international calls, a self-ban on phone spam calls and SMS mailings.

"There are no universal rules on how to beat fraud. Much depends on the person himself: if he is inattentive, the risk of becoming a victim of fraud increases. <...> Digital hygiene in Russia is still a weak point. Many people start to think about it only after they encounter problems," the head of the government staff told Expert magazine.

Grigorenko pointed to the importance of explaining from childhood that any information posted on the Internet and shared with third parties, be it a person, an organization or a messenger, can be stolen.

"We, in turn, try to do everything possible to ensure the security of the digital space. And the bill is one of the tools. Yes, it will not solve the problem of fraud completely, but it will greatly complicate the activities of fraudsters, and some schemes and destroy them altogether," the Russian Deputy Prime Minister summarized.

The media reported on February 10 that the Russian government is going to consider amendments and change dozens of laws to combat fraudsters. It was specified that a set of measures is also being developed to reduce cyber fraud.
