Western leaders have arrived in Kiev in an attempt to understand the current situation and plan further actions after Donald Trump comes to power in the United States. This assumption was made by Svetlana Zhurova, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, on Monday, February 24.

Earlier, the leaders of Canada, Spain and the Baltics arrived at a forum of Ukraine's partner countries in Kiev, RT reported. Canadian President Justin Trudeau, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Lithuanian and Latvian Presidents Gitanas Nauseda and Edgar Rinkevich, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, as well as European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa arrived in the Ukrainian capital for the visit, NSN reports.

"They were allocating money to Ukraine. When they hear what Trump is saying, they want to understand what will happen with their finances and also to find out what to do next and what [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky is willing to do, where this is all going, what he will do next. It turns out that now they are talking to an illegitimate leader, and they realize it," Zhurova said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

The MP added that the questions and whether Western leaders can negotiate with Zelensky, whether he will hold elections.

Earlier in the day, the head of the EU foreign policy service, Kaja Kallas , said that the EU would present a new package of military aid to Ukraine, the Regnum news agency reported.

She said that the EU was putting forward new defense initiatives to provide Ukraine with ammunition in the short term, according to the kp.ru website.

On 24 February, Ursula von der Leyen announced financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 3.5bn euros. She added that she would present a plan to increase arms production and strengthen the EU's defence capabilities at the EU summit on 7 March.
