Media reported the deaths of more than 50 people from an unknown disease in DR Congo
More than 50 people have died from a febrile disease of unknown origin, recorded in the north-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This was reported by Actualite on February 24, citing data from local health authorities.
"943 cases were registered, including 52 deaths, which corresponds to a lethality rate of 5.5%," it noted.
It is specified that the first cases of the disease were recorded on February 9. The disease is dangerous for people of all ages, among the symptoms: fever, chills, headaches, muscle pain, joint pain.
At the same time, the DRC Ministry of Health ruled out the hypothesis of a possible Ebola epidemic, emphasized Actualite.
Earlier, in December 2024, Reuters reported 143 deaths from an unknown disease in the southwestern province of DRC. Then the situation about the incidence of an unknown virus was taken under control by Rospotrebnadzor specialists.
