Heads of Russian Grids and India's BHEL discussed DC power transmission projects

As part of a working trip to India, ROSSETI Group head Andrey Ryumin met with Vijay Mittal, a member of the government of that country and a member of the Board of Directors of BHEL Engineering and Industrial Corporation, Sadashiv Murthy, Managing Director of Koppu, and Jitendra Das, its Executive Director. According to the Russian company, the meeting participants "considered promising areas of cooperation, including exchange of experience in the field of construction and operation of DC facilities."
BHEL is one of the world leaders in the field of power transmission, including the development of electrical equipment up to 1200 kV. The Indian company presented several major projects in this field, implemented in partnership with solution manufacturers.
According to Andrey Ryumin, "Russia and India face similar challenges in the power industry - a sharp increase in consumption in megacities and production centers, the need to transmit power over significant distances.
Classical methods of operation are no longer sufficient to solve these challenges, he pointed out. "We have agreed with BHEL to exchange experience in the framework of implementation of promising projects, including direct current transmission," Ryumin said.
For his part, Vijay Mittal noted that "there have always been friendly relations between India, since independence, and Russia." "We also appreciate that Russia provided technological support to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited at the initial stage of operations. Today, BHEL is present in over 90 countries. We are happy to note that new opportunities are opening up for India and Russia," he added.
