Marseille prosecutor's office has launched an investigation after the explosion on the territory of the Russian Consulate General in a case of vandalism with the use of explosives or incendiary substances. This was reported by the TV channel BFMTV on February 24.
"The Prosecutor's office of Marseille confirms the start of an investigation at the scene of the incident on the fact of defacement with explosive or incendiary substances," - stated in the material.
It is noted that the investigation is entrusted to the department for combating organized crime.
Earlier in the day TV channel BFM reported about the explosion in Marseille. At the scene of the explosion worked about 30 employees of the Marseille marine fire department and police. According to preliminary data, the explosion occurred around 8:00 (10:00 Moscow time). Later, the Russian Embassy said there were no casualties at the consulate general.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the explosion on the territory of the diplomatic mission had all the signs of a terrorist attack. She demanded that France take prompt and exhaustive measures to investigate the incident.
