Merz says Ukraine needs to participate in peace talks

The leader of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc that won the Bundestag election, Friedrich Merz, said on February 24 that Ukraine should take part in the conflict settlement talks.

"Europe remains firmly on the side of Ukraine. Now, more than ever, we must put Ukraine in a position of strength," he wrote on the social network X (former Twitter), adding that Kiev must participate in peace talks to achieve a "just peace."

Earlier, on February 21, Polish presidential candidate from the Law and Justice party Karol Nawrocki said that despite ingratitude, Ukraine should be represented at the negotiating table. In his opinion, the USA, Russia, Ukraine and Poland should take part in the talks.
