Europe has started talking about a missed opportunity to end the conflict in Ukraine profitably, admitting that the EU has failed to develop a plan of action, the Euractiv portal reported on 24 February.

"Privately, many European officials are increasingly talking about the missed opportunity to end the conflict quickly, cheaply and on European terms," the publication said.

It notes that they have wasted time on "deferred solutions" and have not developed any European action plan in the four months since US President Donald Trump's victory.

"They recognize that they could have helped Ukraine win, but spent time on deferred decisions and rejected Kiev's requests to provide more weapons or lift restrictions on their use. This also includes the four months spent in brooding after Trump's election victory, during which no European action plan was developed," the portal pointed out.

Earlier, on February 21, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on the European Union to take urgent measures against the background of negotiations between Russia and the United States without European participation.

Before that, on February 17, The National Interest magazine said that the conflict in Ukraine is de facto over, further expansion of NATO is also over. The magazine wrote that Washington was gradually reducing financial aid to Kiev in order to bring the fighting to a more rapid end. The authors of the article believed that in such a situation, Europe would not have enough money "to support" the Ukrainian troops.
