Students of the St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation have created a prototype of an emergency recorder for small aircraft. Its software allows uninterrupted recording of flight data, the university said.

The onboard recorder is an electronic device for recording and storing flight data. According to one of the authors of the project, student Evgeny Komolov, the test sample is made of PLA-plastic, thanks to which the prototype is lightweight and airtight. "The on-board registration device is fixed inside the hull of the aircraft using screws through two holes on the hull provided for this purpose. The hull ensures that the internal components are sealed and the electronics ensure that the information sent is captured," the student said.

Flight data is stored on a flash drive in text file and spreadsheet format.

It is noted that there are no requirements to install on-board recording devices on small aircraft. However, the recorded flight data can help in determining the causes of emergency situations.
