In most cases, the symptom of cold extremities is a consequence of cool temperatures and lack of physical activity, but it can also indicate serious health problems. This was warned on February 24 by cardiologist, functional diagnostician "SM-Clinica", Candidate of Medical Sciences Irina Polyayeva in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".

"Reduced hemoglobin (anemia) in the blood also causes cold hands and feet due to insufficient blood supply of tissues with oxygen. In addition, one of the main causes of cold extremities is insufficient blood circulation. This can occur due to vasoconstriction caused, for example, by atherosclerosis, in which cholesterol builds up on the walls of the arteries. If blood cannot circulate freely to the extremities, they may feel cold," she said.

Some nervous system disorders, such as Raynaud's syndrome, can cause blood vessels to spasm and lead to a lack of blood supply to the body. During these processes, people usually notice a change in skin color as well as a slight tingling sensation.

"Insufficient thyroid function (hypothyroidism) can also slow down metabolism, leading to a drop in body temperature and cold extremities. Other symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain and dry skin may also occur. People with diabetes, on the other hand, can develop diabetic neuropathy, a nerve damage that can also impair blood circulation and cause coldness in the extremities," the cardiologist said.

She warned that in case of frequent sensation of cold in the extremities, one should seek diagnosis from a specialist.

"As temporary measures, you can recommend exercises to improve blood circulation. In addition, wear warm clothes and socks and maintain a comfortable room temperature. Remember that cold hands and feet can be not only an unpleasant symptom, but also a sign of more serious health problems. Do not ignore this condition and closely monitor your well-being", - advised Irina Polyayeva.

A day earlier, experts gave advice on reducing the load on the heart and blood vessels in the driver. It is important for the driver to maintain proper posture, and for this purpose it is necessary to adjust the seat so as to provide a good view of the road. The backrest should be at an angle of 95-110 degrees, too vertical position will cause tension in the back, and too leaned backrest - overload of the neck and shoulders.
