Servicemen of the Center troops grouping have congratulated veteran of the Great Patriotic War Aleksandr Borisovich Baskakov in Luhansk on his 100th birthday and Defender of the Fatherland Day. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry on February 24.

"In Lugansk, the collective of the front brigade of the song and dance ensemble of the grouping of troops "Center" congratulated the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Baskakov Alexander Borisovich on the 100th anniversary and on the Day of Defender of the Fatherland", - said in the Ministry of Defense.

The collective of the ensemble sang for the birthday boy his favorite songs "Valenki" and "Katyusha", the musical accompaniment was an accordion. The veteran received congratulations from General Viktor Goremykin, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Head of the Military and Political Department of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and the command of the "Center" group of troops.

In addition to congratulations, the veteran received a food kit containing food and essentials.

"The Caucasus was liberated, Krasnodar. And then Ukraine, Moldavia, Romania, Hungary. Went all over Europe. After the war, returned from the front and served for another five years," he told about his service in the troops.

Alexander Borisovich was born in 1925 in the village of Kazminskoye, Stavropol Territory. He went to the front in 1942 at the age of 17, so he was forced to add a year to his documents. In the army he was assigned to the 95th Border Regiment, in which he took part in the liberation of Krasnodar from fascist invaders. He especially remembered the fierce battle for the village of Elizavetinskaya, where he lost his older brother Ivan, who died heroically in the battle.

"It is very significant that exactly today, on Defender of the Fatherland Day, we congratulate our beloved and respected veteran," said Anton Sholokhov, head of the music ensemble.

On February 23, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov congratulated Russian servicemen and combat veterans on Defender of the Fatherland Day. He drew attention to the fact that the year 2025, declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, is marked by an important anniversary - the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. Belousov wished the veterans health, longevity and vitality.
