The Christian Democratic/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) party has won the early elections to the Bundestag, with the Alternative for Germany (AdG) party coming in second, according to CEC data cited by ARD TV channel on February 23.

As informed by the Election Commission, CDU/CSU is leading in the German elections with 28.6% of votes, AdG - second with 20.8%, Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) - third with 16.4% according to the results of counting in all 299 districts.

At the same time, the AdG party is leading in the Bundestag elections in all federal states of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), far ahead of other parties.

In addition, it is reported that the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and the new Sarah Wagenknecht Union (SSV) party do not pass to the Bundestag.

Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU) candidate for German chancellor Friedrich Merz said his party had won the February 23 election, noting that a workable coalition must now be formed as soon as possible.

Earlier, on February 23, German TV channel ZDF cited Exit poll data, according to which 29% of voters voted for the CDU/CSU. The Alternative for Germany (AdG) took second place in the Bundestag elections for the first time in history with 20% of the vote. At the same time, Scholz's SPD gained only 16.5% of electorate support, its worst result ever.

Polling stations at early elections to the Bundestag in Germany opened at 8:00 (10:00 Moscow time) and worked until 18:00 (20:00 Moscow time). The right to participate in the elections had 59.2 million citizens of Germany.
