Friedrich Merz, a candidate for chancellor of Germany from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU), announced his plans to create a new government before the Catholic Easter, which is celebrated on April 20. He told about it on February 23 on air of ZDF TV channel.

According to him, it will not be easy to form a new government, but Europe is not waiting for the FRG. For this reason, the state must act decisively. Merz also noted that there is enough time until Easter.

On the same day, Friedrich Merz said that his party won the February 23 elections, noting that it is now necessary to create a workable coalition as soon as possible.

German TV channel ZDF cited exit poll data, according to which 29% of voters voted for the CDU/CSU. For the first time in history, the Alternative for Germany party (AdG) took the second place in the Bundestag elections with 20% of votes. At the same time, Scholz's Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) gained only 16.5% of the electorate's support, which is its worst result ever.
