The negotiation process between the Russian Federation and the United States will result in bilateral agreements on issues of mutual interest to the two states, Grigory Karasin, head of the Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee, explained to Izvestia.

"This will undoubtedly follow at some later stage, now there are completely different priorities," he said.

The senator added, however, that at the talks the parties are engaged in "resolving specific issues, not demagoguery."

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on February 23 that Russia and the United States will hold talks on "irritants" in bilateral relations at the end of this week.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin explained that at the meeting in Riyadh on February 18, in addition to Ukraine, the sides discussed a host of issues, including the economy, energy, space and the Middle East.
