US President Donald Trump congratulated the Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU) on its victory in early elections to the German Bundestag and said that Germans are tired of politics devoid of common sense. He wrote about this on February 23 in the social network Truth Social.

The American leader noted that, apparently, the conservative party won a large-scale election. Just like in the United States, German citizens are fed up with an agenda devoid of common sense, especially on energy and immigration.

According to Trump, it is "a great day for Germany and for the United States". America's chief of staff congratulated the CDU/CSU and said there were many more victories ahead.

On the same day, German TV channel ZDF cited exit poll data, according to which 29% of voters voted for the CDU/CSU. The Alternative for Germany party (AdG) took second place in the Bundestag elections for the first time in history with 20% of the vote. At the same time, Scholz's SPD gained only 16.5% of electorate support, its worst result ever.

Polling stations at early elections to the Bundestag in Germany opened at 8:00 (10:00 Moscow time) and worked until 18:00 (20:00 Moscow time). The right to participate in the elections had 59.2 million citizens of Germany.
