The West's plans to settle the Ukrainian issue envisage the possible deployment of European troops on the territory of Ukraine, but without the participation of the North Atlantic Alliance. This was stated on Sunday, February 23, by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

"In my understanding, it will be a military decision on the part of Europe, but not on the part of NATO. That's what we're going to build off of," he said on Fox News Channel when asked about the possibility of U.S. troops participating in a potential peacekeeping mission in Ukraine.

Bessent said these issues are likely to be discussed at upcoming meetings between United States President Donald Trump and French counterpart Emmanuel Macron (Feb. 24) and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer (Feb. 27).

Earlier in the day, Swiss army commander Thomas Süssli said that the country was ready to allocate peacekeepers, who would later be sent to Ukraine, if requested. He specified that in such a case the Swiss side could provide about 200 soldiers in 9-12 months.

The Wall Street Journal reported on 23 February that the UK and France were developing a plan to deploy up to 30,000 European peacekeepers in Ukraine. At the same time, it is noted that the implementation depends on whether Trump can be persuaded to accept a limited role for the US soldiers, who would support the EU in case the conflict escalates.
