Voter turnout in German elections was 52%

The voter turnout in the German elections as of 14:00 (16:00 Moscow time) amounted to 52%. This was reported by the newspaper Rheinische Post on February 23 with reference to the data of federal officials.
It is specified that those voting by mail are not counted. By the same time in 2021, the figure was only 36.5%.
The large difference is attributed to vote by mail. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic in September 2021, a large number of people voted that way.
Nevertheless, turnout this year is also significantly higher than in 2017, when only 41% of electors had voted at the polls by 2 p.m., the publication added.
In the previous 2021 federal election, voter turnout was 76.4% overall, according to official results.
Polling stations for early elections to the Bundestag in Germany opened at 8:00 (10:00 Moscow time). It will be possible to vote until 18:00 (20:00 Moscow time), 59.2 million citizens of Germany are entitled to do so.
Earlier, on February 20, Alexander Kamkin, associate professor at the Finance University under the Russian Government, in a conversation with Izvestia, predicted the victory of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU/CSU) candidate for chancellor, Friedrich Merz. He noted that the CDU, having won the election, will enter into an alliancewith the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), but to form a coalition in the government they will have to take a third partner, and which political force it will be is the main intrigue.
