The United States has expressed hope that American companies will return to the Russian market if agreements on the Ukrainian issue are reached. This was stated on Sunday, February 23, by the special envoy of the President of the United States Stephen Whitkoff.

"Obviously, there is an expectation that if we reach a peace agreement, American companies will be able to come back and do business there. I think everybody thinks that would be a positive and good thing after the end [of the conflict]," he said in an interview with CBS News.

Whitkoff noted that the issue was not discussed with Russia at the talks held in Saudi Arabia between Russian and U.S. delegations.

Earlier in the day, Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov said that foreign companies are actively exploring the prospects of returning to Russia. At the same time, he specified that Russia has not yet received any legal appeals from foreign brands.

Prior to that, on February 20, First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov said that only those foreign companies, which the Russian Federation considers necessary for itself, will be allowed to enter the Russian market. At the same time, he noted that domestic companies and brands from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will be given absolute priority in the most important sectors for technological sovereignty.
