Russia agrees with Myanmar to build solar power plants

Russia and Myanmar have agreed to implement joint projects, such as those related to the construction of organic fertilizer plants and solar power plants in the South Asian republic. This was announced by the head of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov during the plenary session of the V intergovernmental Russian-Myanmar commission on trade and economic cooperation in Nay Pyi Taw.
"Our cooperation gives Myanmar access to needed resources, goods and services, jobs and an influx of tourists, and Russia - new markets, increased investment and production," the minister emphasized.
Among the key results of the official visit of the Russian delegation is the contract on the restoration of equipment at the iron smelting plant of Myanmar. This work in the future will help expand the common technological base of Moscow and Nay Pyi Taw. In addition, the parties signed an agreement on the transfer of IT solutions to Myanmar in cybersecurity, telecommunications and protection of financial transactions, as well as in the creation of e-government infrastructure.
Reshetnikov pointed out that the two countries have recently strengthened cooperation in various areas, for example, on the interregional track, and built a common payment infrastructure, within the framework of which in Myanmar a number of hotels and stores accept cards of the Russian system "Mir". Moreover, the republic's tour operators actively participate in Russian tourism exhibitions and support the Welcome Russia program.
At the same time, the minister emphasized that business interaction between Moscow and Nay Pyi Taw is expanding: the Myanmar-Russian Business Council has been launched, and the businesses of both countries will receive assistance in mutual market entry.
Russian Ambassador to Myanmar Iskander Azizov said that Russia supports the republic's aspirations to get closer to Eurasian associations, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and BRICS. The diplomat pointed out that the full potential of bilateral cooperation between Myanmar and the Russian Federation has not yet been revealed, and expressed confidence that in the near future the two states will be able to realize many global and ambitious ideas together.
Earlier in the day Reshetnikov at a meeting with Myanmar Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing discussed the development of investment infrastructure projects on the track of bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Nay Pyi Taw. The minister called the republic a long-standing and reliable partner of the Russian Federation not only in the Asia-Pacific region, but also in the international arena.
