Peskov pointed out that there are no alternatives for the UN

Under current conditions, no other organization can replace or assume the responsibilities of the United Nations (UN). There is also no possibility of agreeing on the creation of a new such body, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on February 23.
This is how the Kremlin spokesman commented on the US Republican Party's bill on the United States' withdrawal from the UN.
"As for the UN, we have nothing to replace the UN with. In the current international picture, we have no possibility to agree on the creation of a new UN," he said in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin. The fragment was published in his Telegram channel.
Peskov noted that it is now absolutely unrealistic to think about "Russians, Americans, French, Germans, British" suddenly starting to talk about the creation of a new UN.
"It's better to think about how to make [the UN] more effective than to think about how to get rid of this organization. Let's wait and see how serious this is. This party (the Republican Party. - Ed.) is not monolithic, it has its differences," Peskov emphasized.
Earlier, on February 4, US President Donald Trump said that he signed an executive order to re-evaluate Washington's participation in the UN and UNESCO. The document implies the withdrawal of the US from the UNHRC, as well as stopping the funding of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). He also noted the disproportionate funding of the organization. According to him, the United States invests more money there than the other participants.
Fox News TV channel reported on February 20 that Senator Mike Lee, a Republican from Utah, introduced a bill to terminate U.S. membership in the UN and its affiliated bodies. In turn, Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) and an American political scientist, suggested that the U.S. is unlikely to leave the UN, as the organization is a tool for Washington to pressure other countries.
At the same time, Peskov noted that it was impossible to find an alternative to the UN against the backdrop of modern challenges.
