A strong flare occurred on the Sun on February 23

A strong flare of class M (penultimate in power) occurred on the Sun in the morning on Sunday, February 23. This was reported in the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IPG).
"On February 23 at 05:13 Moscow time at X-ray range in the group of spots 4001 (N25W82) registered flare M4.9 with a duration of 23 minutes", - told in the institute TASS.
M-class flashes are average among large ones. On the day side of the Earth, they can cause small to moderate radio interference, and some of these flares can lead to a solar radiation storm. In addition, they are sometimes accompanied by coronal mass ejections of the star, which causes a geomagnetic storm, during which residents of middle latitudes with a high probability of seeing the northern lights.
Earlier, on February 14, the Sun had two powerful flares of class M1.2. They occurred at 13:06 Moscow time and lasted 31 minutes.
