Cryptocurrency exchange ByBit called on "the brightest minds" to help catch hackers who broke into the service and stole funds from it. The exchange announced this on February 22 on its website.

ByBit specifies that the person who contributes to catching the criminals will be paid 10% of the amount that will be recovered with his help - the reward could be up to $140 million. The crypto exchange emphasizes that it values transparency and the use of blockchain technology for good intentions.

"Within 24 hours of the incident, we were overwhelmed by the support of some of the best people and organizations in the industry, and we don't take that for granted. We shared a dark moment in cryptocurrency history and we proved that we are better than the attackers," said cryptocurrency exchange CEO Ben Zhou.

He indicated that ByBit will learn this hard but valuable lesson and fundamentally rebuild its security system.

Earlier, on February 21, ByBit reported that hackers broke into the crypto exchange and stole tokens worth $1.5 billion. Zhou then explained that the attackers took control of one of the offline wallets, the funds on which were stored in Ethereum cryptocurrency (ETH), reports "Gazeta.Ru".
