After the end of the special military operation to protect Donbas, Ukraine will face two waves of emigration. This was told on February 22 in an interview with the Ukrainian edition of Telegraf by Andriy Gaidutskyy, Doctor of Economics, emigration specialist.

"The first wave is about 2 million people, but 2 million and will return. That is, we will get the same balance, and the population of the country will not change," Gaidutsky said.

He specified that this wave should be expected after the end of hostilities. The second period of mass emigration is possible if Ukraine joins the European Union (EU) - another 1-2 million people may leave the country. The exact number of migrants will depend on how low wages in Ukraine remain, Gazeta.Ru reported.

Gaidutsky pointed out that men in the country live with the "delayed emigration syndrome": they want to leave, but cannot because of the restrictions on leaving Ukraine that are in place for them. When asked by the newspaper whether this ban should be maintained in order to prevent the outflow of men, the scientist said that it should be lifted after all. At the same time, it can be done in stages, gradually lowering the age of citizens who are not allowed to leave.

Earlier, on February 14, a patrol of the Border Guard Service of Moldova detained a citizen of this republic for 30 days, who tried to help two Ukrainians illegally cross the border. The refugee men said that they had paid their escort $2,000.

The head of the Ukrainian National Unity Ministry, Oleksiy Chernyshov, said that the country's authorities would set up centers for the return of Ukrainian refugees in Germany, which will be called Unity Hubs. They will help citizens who want to return to their homeland to find jobs, housing and education.

Chernyshov said on January 7 that Kiev had started the process of returning citizens who are abroad. At the same time, people will not be forced to do so. According to him, 20-25m Ukrainians are currently abroad.
