An orthodontist lists the habits of children that form a bad bite

Bite abnormalities in children can arise due to such habits as finger sucking, using a pacifier or holding foreign objects in the mouth. This was told in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru" on February 22 orthodontist of the scientific and clinical center EUROKAPPA Clinic, candidate of medical sciences Polina Makhortova.
According to the doctor, prolonged bottle feeding after three years can lead to an open bite and "bottle caries", which develops due to frequent contact of teeth with milk or sweet drinks, especially during sleep, when salivation and protective functions of the oral cavity are reduced.
Makhortova also pointed out the importance of a child's correct posture when studying and resting. If a child often sits leaning on one side of the face or putting a fist under the chin, this can cause jaw deformity, facial asymmetry and breathing problems.
In addition, the infantile position of the tongue, when the child puts it between the teeth, can cause problems with the bite and speech. In such cases, it is important to contact not only a speech therapist, but also an orthodontist in time.
An improper bite can have a negative impact on health, causing respiratory disorders, hypoxia and posture disorders. This, in turn, reduces physical activity and motivation to study.
Makhortova emphasizes that avoiding bad habits and timely orthodontic treatment are important preventive measures.
"Parents should monitor their child's posture and habits, and at the first alarming signs contact a specialist. The earlier the problem is identified, the easier it is to solve," summarized the orthodontist.
Earlier, on January 25, Victoria Radko, orthodontist, head of the orthodontic department of the EUROKAPPA clinic, told Izvestia that children sucking a finger, pacifier or holding foreign objects in the mouth can cause serious changes in the development of the maxillofacial apparatus.
