An expert has predicted the likelihood of McDonalds' return to Russia

The return of American brands to the Russian market is being actively discussed, but we should not expect foreign companies to appear in Russia quickly. Franchise market expert and co-founder of Businessmens.ru Yuri Bogomolov told Gazeta.Ru which brands could return to Russia in the near future.
According to Bogomolov, Starbucks, Levi's, Nike, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger may be the first to return. For example, Dunkin' Donuts, having officially announced its departure, simply renamed the establishments Donutto, while the franchise remained available.
Fast food chains such as Domino's Pizza and Pizza Hut are in no hurry to return, as their Russian franchisees have either changed owners or ceased operations. At the same time, KFC and Burger King, despite announcing their departure, actually continue to operate in Russia under new brands.
The expert has the greatest doubts about the return of McDonald's. The expert notes that the company will probably try to re-enter the market, but it is unlikely that it will cooperate with the existing "Tasty - and Dot" chain.
As for clothing, Russian management companies that previously bought out businesses from Western brands may return the original store names. However, some companies, such as Michael Kors, have truly given up on supplying Russia, so their return is unlikely.
In addition, the arrival of new players who did not manage to enter the Russian market before the sanctions, such as fast food restaurant chains Taco Bell and Popeyes, is possible.
"These brands already had no capacity in Russia, so they will still need to open from scratch. The time when restrictions are lifted will suit this best, because the public will be interested and the competition will be active and extensive, without monopoly distortions. We also take into account the role of our entrepreneurs. Russian franchising is not like it was 15 years ago," the expert explained.
According to Bogomolov, Russians may see the following brands in the second wave: Arby's, Wingstop, Ben Jerry's, Jersey Mike's Subs and Culver's.
Earlier, on February 19, analysts of the Kokoc Group platform predicted a massive return of foreign companies to Russia: 350 foreign brands may re-enter the country's market in 2025.
